Our Life

At present we are about 25 adults and 30 children and teenagers in the Munich region and we meet once a week (normally friday evening) - together with guests, who naturally are welcome to all our open meetings - for a charismatic prayer meeting in the parish hall in Olching: to worship the Lord together in the open style of charismatic praise with many new songs, to bring our personal intentions before the throne of God our Father and to listen to God's Word in the Holy Scriptures and in a short teaching, which usually is based on passages from the Bible.

Because we not only want to come together to pray, but also wish to live our daily lives in the modern world as Christians, we meet in addtion to our prayer meetings every two weeks or so at different places in smaller groups to share with each other about our life as Christians, our daily cares, joys and sorrows, to pray for each other so as to deepen our relationship to God.

Next to that we have from time to time weekend retreats, which are weekends for the community as well as any other folks who may be interested in seminars on "Life in the Holy Spirit", Fundamentals of the Faith or retreats for married couples or families.

Our Roots

The charismatic renewal is a worldwide movement in all Christian Churches that began mainly at the end of the 1960's (previous movements are also known throughout Church history). The renewal comprises worldwide perhaps as many as 300 million Christians from all confessions. The most visible characteristic of this movement is how people have received an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in a new, powerful and life-changing way, just like we read in the Bible (Acts of the Apostles chapter 2, verses 1-4). That's where they see:

In the Catholic Church in Germany there are about 12,000 Christians who have come closer to God through the charismatic renewal and many of them meet in prayer groups and communities. There have been communities formed worldwide, people who have been touched in a similar way by the Holy Spirit and have banded together to support our common Christian way of life and share a common vision of bringing Jesus Christ to others. Many of those groups have also joined together in associations of communities, for example the International Brotherhood of Communities, Christ the King Association or the Sword of the Spirit, to which the Bread of Life (Brot des Lebens) community belongs. Communities similar to our own can be found all over Europe, for example in England, Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Belgium and Poland, in North and South America, and in Asia and Australia.

Our History

The community Bread of Life began in 1980, the result of a fusion of two prayer groups who felt God calling them to share a common life as a community. We believe, at that very time, that God gave us the name Bread of Life. This name has a special meaning for us, that we as Christians are called first and foremost to be Jesus Christ to all around us: "you might be the only Bible that some people will ever read." It's not so important what we do or produce or what our capabilities are, rather our dedication to the Lord. "Your secret has been laid out on the Lord's table; be what you see and receive what you are!" (St. Augustin)

In the summer of 1991 our Archbishop for the diocese of Munich and Freising, Friedrich Cardinal Wetter, gave our community his official approval.
